QD-Mini LED and Quantum Dot Colour
The 85P8L combines a Mini LED backlight with TCL's QLED colour technology. Smaller backlight LEDs allow finer light control across the panel, while Quantum Dot technology expands the range of colours the screen can reproduce.
TCL lists approximately 93% DCI-P3 colour coverage for the P8L series. More models using the company's Quantum Dot display technology can be found in the TCL QLED TV range.
22-Bit Backlight Control on the 85-Inch Model
The 85-inch P8L uses TCL's 22-bit backlight control system. It manages brightness changes in smaller steps, helping the display produce smoother transitions between bright and dark areas.
This specification is size-specific: TCL lists 22-bit control for the 75-inch and 85-inch P8L models.
HVA Panel with 6500:1 Native Contrast
TCL lists a native contrast ratio of up to 6500:1 for the 85P8L's HVA panel. Higher native contrast helps preserve separation between darker shadows and brighter parts of an image, particularly during films and other content containing mixed lighting.
144Hz Native Refresh Rate
The TCL 85P8L has a native refresh rate of 144Hz. Compatible high-frame-rate content can therefore be displayed with smoother movement than on standard 60Hz televisions.
AiPQ Picture Processing
TCL's AiPQ Processor analyses different elements of the incoming picture instead of applying one fixed adjustment across every scene.
ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi Audio
The 85-inch P8L comes with an ONKYO 2.1-channel Hi-Fi audio system. It is paired with Dolby Atmos processing for compatible audio content, giving films, series and games a broader sound presentation directly from the television.
Google TV and TCL AI
Google TV brings supported streaming apps, online content and smart-TV functions into one interface. TCL AI adds further image, interaction and content features to the P8L platform.
